Geographical location

Fridritt lies east of Münnerstadt in a side valley of the Wannig.

The place is connected to the north with radiation , to the east with Kleinwenkheim and to the south with Wermerichshausen .

The federal motorway 71 runs north of Fridritt in a northeast-southwest direction . The Franconian Marienweg leads through the village .

history

The village was first mentioned on November 17, 842. On this day the Fulda monastery received goods in the village. At that time it was still called Fritirihot . It is still unclear whether the place name was derived from a person called Fridurih or Friderih . It is also possible that Frideritt stands for peaceful, protective reed . From 1217 to 1803 the place was a monastery village and belonged to the Maria Bildhausen monastery .

The miraculous image of the Madonna of Fridritt was created around 1360 , to which pilgrimages were made even before the Thirty Years War . Due to increasing numbers of pilgrims , the large baroque church of St. Laurentius and Assumption of Mary was built between 1734 and 1740 .

On January 1, 1972, Fridritt was incorporated into Münnerstadt.
