The Roman Catholic branch church of the Immaculate Conception is located in the Kaimling district (corner of Irchenriether Straße - Schweglerweg) in the Upper Palatinate town of Vohenstrauß .

history

Although the roots of the village probably go back to the 10th century, there is no reference to a church or chapel. Kaimling used to belong to the parish of Michldorf, 3 km away, and now to the parish of Roggenstein, about 2 km away. In the place of today's church there was a shingle-roofed "wooden village chapel with a graceful, clapboard-roofed bell tower". During the Second World War , the two bells were removed and the tower fell into disrepair.

In 1950, with the active help of the villagers, the construction of a stone chapel began. The foundation stone was laid on July 16, 1950. Heinz Meckler from Weiden was hired as the architect, while Franz Xaver Wittmann from Vohenstrauss took over the construction management. By hand and tensioning services, the shell could be completed by December 1950 and the top of the tower put on. The interior was finished in the following two years. The church was consecrated on September 7, 1952 by Pastor Friedrich Kreuzer.

building

The church is a rectangular building that is somewhat narrowed on both sides on the north side. On the northeast side is the compact tower, which is covered with a tent roof. Two bells are hung in it; In 1978 an electric bell was installed. The sacristy is located in the lower interior of the tower . The church portal is on the south side. A crucifix with a Mother of God underneath was also attached to the outside .

Interior

In the church there are two colorful round windows, one above the church portal, the other above the altar. On the sides are painted arched windows dedicated to Saints Wendelin , Erhard , Georg , Margareta , mother Anna and Paulus .

The carving above the altar was made from willow by Hans Rösch and depicts Mary in a halo with the baby Jesus. Two putti stand at the feet of this group . There is a harmonium on the gallery and there is also space for a church choir.

The village renovation was completed in 2018 and the church square was redesigned, and a Nepomuk statue is to be dedicated at the inauguration ceremony in 2019.
