Maria-Elisabeth Overdick Gulden

Maria-Elisabeth Overdick-Gulden (* 1931 in Tauberbischofsheim ; † January 14, 2019 ) was a German internist and life rights activist.

Life

She studied human medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau and Würzburg . In 1957 she passed the state examination and received her doctorate in Dr. med. on February 5, 1959. She then worked at the Düren District Hospital, most recently as a senior physician in the Department of Internal Medicine.

In the 1960s she also traveled with her husband, the architect Franz Overdick, to Tanzania , where both were involved in development work. After leaving the hospital, she started her own business and ran a practice as an internist in Düren for many years . In 1986 the couple moved to Trier , where they studied philosophy and theology at the University and theological faculty of Trier. She was a member of the Doctors for Life and the Right to Live Action for All .

In 2000 she was awarded a doctorate in theology honoris causa at the Trier Theological Faculty. On November 19, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed she to the lady of the New Year's order .
