Maria-Pia Kothbauer, Princess von und zu Liechtenstein (born August 6, 1960 in Vienna , full name at birth: Maria-Pia Ludovika Ulrike Elisabeth Paschaline Katharina Ignazia Lucia Johanna Josefa von und zu Liechtenstein ) is a Liechtenstein diplomat . She is currently the ambassador of the Principality of Liechtenstein to Austria and the Czech Republic as well as the permanent representative of the Principality to the OSCE and the United Nations institutions in Vienna.

Princess Maria-Pia of Liechtenstein was born on August 6, 1960 as the daughter of Prince Karl Alfred von Liechtenstein and Agnes Christina of Austria in the Austrian capital Vienna. She attended the School of the Dominican Sisters in Vienna- Hietzing and graduated there in 1978. Then she studied political science at Columbia University in New York City , where she in 1983 the academic title of Master of Arts and Sciences gained. From 1984 to 1986 Maria-Pia von Liechtenstein worked for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva and Karthum . From 1987 to 1988 she was the foreign affairs officer of Caritas Austria in Vienna.
Finally, in 1989, Maria-Pia von Liechtenstein joined the diplomatic service in her home country, the Principality of Liechtenstein. In 1990 she became the second embassy secretary at the Liechtenstein embassy in Bern and a member of the delegation of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the conference on security and cooperation in Europe . From 1991 to 1993 she worked in the Foreign Affairs Office of the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Vaduz and became the first secretary at the Embassy of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Austria. In 1993 Maria-Pia von Liechtenstein was finally appointed ambassador for the first time and took over the office of Liechtenstein representative in Brussels as ambassador to the European Union and the Kingdom of Belgium .
In August 1996, Kothbauer's path led back to Vienna, where she initially became head of the delegation of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe . A year later, in December 1997, she was also appointed Liechtenstein ambassador to the Republic of Austria . Since July 2000, she has also performed the duties of permanent representative at the Vienna-based institutions of the United Nations. Following the resumption of diplomatic relations between the Principality of Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic in 2009, Maria-Pia Kothbauer was also accredited as Liechtenstein's non-resident ambassador to the Czech Republic on April 11, 2011.
Private life
Maria-Pia Kothbauer has been married to Max Kothbauer since 1995 and is the mother of a son born in 1997. She lives with her family in Vienna .
