Maria Fisker (born October 3, 1990 in Favrskov ) is a Danish handball player who belongs to the squad of the Danish national team.

Career

In the club

Fisker began playing handball at the Danish club Vissing Hadsten HK (VHHK for short) at the age of five. In 2005 she moved to the youth department of Randers HK . Fisker joined Viborg HK a year later . With her youth team, she won the Danish championship in 2007.

On August 30, 2007, the then youth player was used for the first time in a season preparation game of the women's team of Viborg HK. At the first season game of the women's team on September 8, 2007 against SK Aarhus , she made her debut in the Danish top division and scored one goal. From October 28, 2007, the outside player was also used in the EHF Champions League . Due to Henriette Mikkelsen's pregnancy and the injury-related loss of Christina Roslyng , she played a large part in the left wing position. Due to her performance, she received a professional contract with Viborg in February 2008. In her first season she scored a total of 28 goals in 21 competitive appearances.

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season, Henriette Mikkelsen returned to the Viborg HK squad, after which Fisker was no longer used in the women's team for the time being. Only when Mikkelsen had to take a break due to illness in February 2009 did Fisker make her season debut. In order to get more playing time, she moved to league rivals Randers HK in the summer of 2009. In her first season in Randers she won the EHF Cup and contributed 45 goals to the success. The performance shown also made the Danish national coach Jan Pytlick aware of Fisker, whereupon she was invited to a training course for the national team in June 2010. After she was runner-up the following season, she returned to Viborg HK.

At the end of the first season after returning to VHK, Fisker was elected to the Danish League's All Star Team. In the 2012/13 season, Fisker had to largely sit out due to a serious elbow injury. In the following season Fisker scored 106 goals this season and won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Danish championship with Viborg . In the summer of 2014, Fisker suffered a shoulder injury, which meant that she had to sit out some games at the beginning of the 2014/15 season. From summer 2015 she ran for the Romanian first division club CSM Bucharest . With CSM Bucharest she won the championship, the Romanian Cup and the EHF Champions League in 2016. From summer 2016 she was under contract with the Danish club Randers HK . With Randers she won the Danish Cup in 2016. As of November 2018, she was on pause due to pregnancy. In August 2019 she returned to Viborg HK.

In the national team

Fisker initially played for the Danish youth and junior national team. With these selected teams she finished sixth at the U17 European Championship in 2007, won the bronze medal at the U18 World Championship in 2008 and achieved 13th place at the U19 European Championship in 2009.

Fisker has been chasing goals for the Danish national team since September 24, 2010. The 2011 World Cup in Brazil was their first major tournament. She scored 23 goals in nine games and finished fourth with Denmark. After Fisker had to take a break from the 2012 European Championship due to her elbow injury, she was back in the Danish squad at the 2013 World Cup in Serbia . During the tournament she scored 28 goals in nine games, won the bronze medal and was also elected to the all-star team of the World Cup. At the 2014 European Championship , she was elected to the tournament's all-star team. She also took part in the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 European Championship .
