Maria Giuseppa Robucci-Nargiso (born March 20, 1903 in Poggio Imperiale ; † June 18, 2019 ibid) was an Italian supercentenarian and one of the three oldest people in Europe and, from July 22, 2018, the second oldest living person behind Tanaka Kane .

biography

Robucci was born in 1903 to Antonio and Maria Michela Robucci in Poggio Imperiale in Apulia . On December 3, 1928, she married Nicola Nargiso, with whom she had five children, three sons and two daughters: Angelo (* 1929), Concetta, Antonio (* 1936), Giuseppe (* 1941) and Filomena (* 1943). Together with her husband she ran the village bar. Nargiso fought at the front during World War II, after which the family ran into financial difficulties. Nargiso died in 1982. In her village she was called Nonna Peppa . Her son Angelo and grandson Nicola continued to run the bar in Rome . On her hundredth birthday in 2003, Robucci gave an interview on the television program La Vita in Diretta on the Rai Uno channel . When she was 100, she said she could still chop wood. Her daughter Concetta, who is a member of the Sacrament Sisters of Bergamo as sister Nicoletta , moved to her home in San Severo to look after her. Since then she has been godmother at festivities several times.

In 2014, she broke her thighbone in a serious fall and had to undergo an operation with a prosthesis inserted. Otherwise, however, she was healthy and could walk well even though she was in a wheelchair. In 2015 she was appointed honorary mayor of her hometown Poggio Imperiale. On her one hundred and twelfth birthday, she said of her longevity, "God wants me to be alive and I don't want to disappoint him." In June 2017, she had a breast operation. Robucci attributed her longevity to her optimism, belief in God, and diet. She stated that she ate healthy and little (including a lot of vegetables; she also loves bread, tomatoes and oil) and that she never smoked or drank alcohol. She also went to the church of San Placido Martire at mass every day until she was old. Robucci said she loved card games, singing, and walks by the sea. She didn't wear glasses. Since 2003 she has lived with her youngest daughter Filomena and her husband in Apricena , a community neighboring her home town. She had nine grandchildren and at least 16 great-grandchildren.
