The pilgrimage church Maria Hilf is a monument in Holzburg in the municipality of Ried .

history

Excavations showed that the church already existed as a Romanesque choir tower church around 1200 . The choir was opened in the 14./15. Erected in the 15th century during the Gothic period . During the plague epidemic from 1671 to 1679, the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Holzburg took place . Due to the large influx of pilgrims, the two side chapels were added at the end of the 17th century. At the same time, the church tower was given an octagonal attachment with an onion dome . In 1700 a brotherhood of the holy life and walk of Jesus Mary and Joseph was founded. In the course of secularization , pilgrimage was banned, but still lives on today.

Building description

Maria Hilf is laid out in the shape of a cross. It is a barrel-vaulted hall with a transept-like chapels and a retracted choir . An onion dome is set to the east . A Baptist house is attached to the church.

Furnishing

The high altar and the pulpit date from around 1700. On the left side altar, the Holy Walk around 1700 can be seen as a brotherhood image. The rest of the furnishings , such as the two side altars, are from the middle of the 18th century. The frescoes around 1760 are by Sigismund Reis . They show the Annunciation to Mary in the choir and the Assumption of Mary in the nave . The figure of St. Rosalia comes from the hand of Johann Caspar Öberl . The miraculous image is the group of figures on the right side altar with the risen Christ , Mary as Queen and John. The oldest votive pictures from before 1600 are under plaster behind the altars. Of those on the rear north wall, the oldest is from 1696.
