Maria João Koehler (born October 8, 1992 in Porto ), also Maria João Koehler, is a Portuguese tennis player .

Career

Koehler started playing tennis at the age of seven. Since 2006 she has played mainly at ITF tournaments, where she won four tournaments each in singles and doubles.

In 2012 she qualified for the Australian Open ; she lost to Kim Clijsters in two sets in round one . Since 2009 she has been playing regularly with a wildcard in the main field of the Estoril Open , where she achieved her best result in 2012 when she moved into the second round.

Koehler has played for the Portuguese Fed Cup team since 2008 ; their record shows 11 wins and 20 losses.
