Marianna Artashirovna Dewlet

Marianna Artaschirowna Dewlet ( Russian Марианна Арташировна Дэвлет ; born June 13, 1933 in Wetluga ) is a Soviet - Russian prehistorian .

Life

Dewlet studied at the Lomonossow University Moscow (MGU) in the history faculty with graduation in 1957 with Sergei Vladimirovich Kisselev at the chair of archeology . She then became a research assistant at the Research Institute for Museology .

1962 Devlet began postgraduate at the Moscow Institute of History of Material Culture of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (since 1991 Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences ) at Nikolai Yakovlevich Merpert they in 1966 with the successful defense of her dissertation about the strains on the middle Yenisei in the Early Iron Age for a doctorate as a candidate in history . She stayed in this institute and eventually became a senior research fellow.

Dewlet's research focus was on rock art in southern Siberia and Central Asia . Since 1953 she took part in expeditions in Siberia , Central Asia, the Caucasus and west of the Urals (until 1990). As a student she was involved in the excavation of the Salbyk Kurgans in Khakassia . She led the Lake Todscha expedition in Tuva (1969–1973) and the petroglyph group of the Sajan Tuwa expedition (1974–1990). In 1983 she successfully defended her doctoral thesis on the petroglyphs on the Yenisei. In 1990 she initiated and organized the All Union Conference on Rock Art in Moscow. She became a corresponding member of the rock art committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and in 1991 a full member of the Soviet ICOMOS committee.

The archaeologist Ekaterina Georgievna Dewlet was Dewlet's daughter.
