biography

Zechmeister won the bronze medal at the Junior European Championships in Mayrhofen in 1975 and the silver medal in slalom in Kranjska Gora in 1977 . Already in the winter of 1974/75 she started in the World Cup , but she did not win the first World Cup points until February 4, 1979 when she was 25th in the downhill and ninth in the combination in Pfronten . In the next winter ( 1979/80 season ) she achieved eleventh place in the descent from Piancavallo and eighth place in the combination of Bad Gastein , which was also her best World Cup result. After these achievements, she was able to take part in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , which also counted as a world championship. On Whiteface Mountain , she was the best German in ninth place in the downhill.

In the 1980/81 season , Zechmeister drove into the points only once, as 13th in the downhill from Val-d'Isère . After that she got no more successes in the World Cup, but in the 1981/82 season she reached second place in the downhill ranking in the European Cup.
