In 1970 the singer was made an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera .

Gerhart excelled in the classic coloratura roles - Donizetti's Lucia , Mozart's Konstanze and Queen of the Night , Verdi's Gilda , Strauss' Sophie , Zerbinetta and Fiakermilli - but also sang lyrical roles such as Fiordiligi , Liu , Oscar or Adina in L'elisir d'amore .
