Marie Majerová (born February 1, 1882 in Úvaly , † January 16, 1967 in Prague ; real name Marie Bartošová ) was a Czech prose writer and journalist. In 1947 she was recognized as a national artist.

Life

She came from a poor family, attended the public school in Kladno and then worked as a servant in Budapest , Vienna and from 1906 to 1907 in Paris . She strived for education, which she finally got in the group around SKNeumann . Her difficult youth influenced her literary work and her political views. Initially an anarchist , she joined the Social Democrats in 1908 and finally joined the Communist Party in 1921 . As a signatory of the Critical Manifesto of the Seven , she was expelled from the party in March 1929. Later she studied at the Sorbonne and traveled the world. In her works, Majerová processed her own impressions and collected z. For example, for the miner's ballad, according to their own information, information from Czech workers who returned to the newly constructed Czechoslovakia after 1918.

Works

She worked as an editor (articles for the children's page) at the communist newspaper Rudé právo and wrote for women's magazines, but also for lesser-known left-wing newspapers and magazines.

Her main theme was the poor social position of women in society. A theme that can be found in each of her works, mostly in petty bourgeois circles or class struggle works. In her opinion, to be a woman always means to suffer. She began her writing career with stories and later wrote novels.
