Marijana Marković
Marijana Marković (born February 3, 1982 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German sword fencer and German champion .
Athletic career
Marijana Marković, nicknamed "Maja", joined the Offenbach fencing club from 1863 in 1990 . There she learned the art of foil fencing from fencing masters Ștefan Haukler and Miklos Bodoczi . At the age of 13, she won her first major title in foil fencing with the German championship title. Her great talent was shown in her fencing versatility, as other German championship titles followed with the sword. In 2002 she moved to TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen , but also trains at the Bonn performance base under national coach Manfred Kaspar .
She completed her final technical specialization in weapons in 1999, when she became both cadet world champion in women's epee fencing and third in the juniors in Keszthely . Since then she has been a permanent member of the German women's epee national team, with which she achieved numerous successes. Among them were the runner-up world championships in Havana in 2003 , Olympic silver in Athens in 2004 , bronze at the world championships in Turin in 2006 , as well as in St. Petersburg in 2007 , as well as in Beijing in 2008 and in Antalya in 2009 .
Professional career
After graduating from high school in 2001 at the Adolf-Reichwein Gymnasium in Heusenstamm , she began studying sports science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . With a view to preparing for the Olympic Games in Athens, she reoriented herself athletically and professionally. When she changed clubs, she joined the Bundeswehr sports promotion group .
After the Olympic Games in Athens, she started her engineering studies in food technology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , which she successfully completed in 2010.
In 2011 she again joined the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Mainz (rank of sergeant ) in order to be able to prepare optimally for the Olympic Games.
