Marin Petrov Goleminow ( Bulgarian Марин Петров Големинов * 28. September 1908 in Kyustendil , Principality of Bulgaria ; † 19th February 2000 in Espinho , Portugal ) was a Bulgarian composer .

Goleminow studied violin in Sofia with Todor Tortschanow and music theory with Dobri Christow and Nikola Atanassow and from 1931 to 1934 at the Schola Cantorum in Paris composition with Vincent d'Indy , Paul Le Flem and Albert Bertelin and at the École Normale de Musique with Paul Dukas . After his return to Bulgaria he became a founding member of the Avramov Quartet in 1935 and chief conductor of the Radio Sofia Chamber Orchestra in 1936 . From 1938 to 1943 he completed his training in Munich as a conductor with Carl Ehrenberg and as a composer with Joseph Haas . From 1943 he taught at the Sofia Conservatory . In 1976 he received the Herder Prize from the University of Vienna .

He composed four operas , one operetta , two ballets , four symphonies , a symphonic poem , symphonic variations , chamber music works, choirs and songs . He also wrote several musicological works. Goleminov Point , a headland on Alexander I Island in Antarctica, has borne his name since 2017 .
