Mario Röser (born December 23, 1966 in Elgersburg ) is a former German soccer player. For FC Carl Zeiss Jena he played in the GDR Oberliga and in the 2nd Bundesliga . For the GDR , he played an A international match.

Athletic career

BSG, club and association stations

Röser began his football career in 1974 with the company sports association (BSG) Chemie in Geraberg, Thuringia . At the age of 13, he was delegated by the BSG in 1980 to the football focus of the region, the FC Carl Zeiss Jena. Although still registered for the junior team of FC Carl Zeiss, he played his first league game in the GDR league on the last day of the 1984/85 season. In the match between Dynamo Dresden and FC Carl Zeiss (3-1) on June 1, 1985, he was substituted on in the 82nd minute. For the 19885/86 season, FC Carl Zeiss officially nominated the 1.81 meter tall Röser as a defender for the league. He was used continuously in the first eight league games, but then injured. The susceptibility to injury accompanied Röser throughout his career as a football player. He was only able to play through the 1988/89 season without a major handicap, but between September 1989 and April 1992 he played only six point games with the first team.

The second half series of the 1986/87 season brought Röser the breakthrough to become a top division regular at FC Carl Zeiss. He established himself as the right full-back in all 13 point games, the position in which he was regularly used in the next few years. Röser experienced a high point of his career when he made it to the final of the GDR soccer cup in 1988 . With right-back Röser, however, the Jena lost to BFC Dynamo after extra time with 0: 2.

In the 1990/91 season, FC Carl Zeiss Jena was concerned with qualifying for paid football in the DFB game . In the last league season of the disbanded GDR soccer association, Jena came in sixth and thus qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga. Röser was injured the entire season and did not come to his first appearance in the 2nd division until March 7, 1992. In the match on the 23rd match day between FC Carl Zeiss Jena and FC 08 Homburg (3-1), he played again as a right-back. He played his most successful second division season in 1992/93, when 35 of the 46 point games played. In 1993/94 he was again injured for a long time in the first half of the season, only in the second half of the season he came back regularly, but now played in central defense. As seventeenth in the table, the Jena team had to relegate to the regional league at the end of the season . With only 15 of 34 played point games, Röser was involved in the immediate resurgence. In the following three second division seasons Röser was still part of the player base, but had to take breaks due to injuries. In his last season in the 2. Bundesliga 1997/98 he played 19 of the 34 point games and was mostly used as a left defender. As a central defender, Röser played his last second division game on the last day of the season, June 7, 1998, in the match between FC Carl Zeiss and Fortuna Düsseldorf (3: 4), as the Jena team had to relegate again. As a 31-year-old, Röser played in five regional league games, and in the 0: 1 at Spandauer SV on October 18, 1998, he was in the first team of the Zeiss townspeople for the last time. So he had completed 276 competitive games for FC Carl Zeiss Jena, in which he had scored two goals. He played 85 times in the GDR Oberliga, 115 times in the 2nd Bundesliga and 15 times in the Regionalliga. In addition, played six games in the European and 28 games in the national cup, as well as 27 Intertoto games .

Selection bets

As a junior player for FC Carl Zeiss, Röser played 15 games with the GDR junior national team . With the East German U-18 he took 3rd place in the youth competition of friendship in Hungary in the summer of 1984 . For the Junior European Championship in 1986 he was able to participate in the first qualifying games in autumn 1984 and spring 1985, but then had to vacate his regular place for the further course of the competition due to an age restriction .

After he had also completed 15 international matches with the GDR youth team from March 1986 to March 1988 , the defender was appointed to the senior national team for the first time a little later. On April 13, 1988 Röser came to his only appearance in an A international match. In the test game Bulgaria - GDR (1: 1) he was used in his regular position as a right defender. He was then unable to prevail against his rivals Ronald Kreer and Detlef Schößler in the selection jersey.

Further career

After his career as a high-performance athlete, Röser joined the regional class representative FC Thüringen Weida , where he played as a recreational footballer until 2002 and also worked as a junior coach.
