Ronald Kreer (born November 10, 1959 in Delitzsch ) is a former German soccer player. In the top division of GDR football , the Oberliga , he played for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig . In the 1980s, he was one of the most influential players in the European Cup finalists at the time. The full-back played 65 games in the GDR national team , the last six of which as captain.

Athletic career

BSG, club and association stations

In his youth, Ronald Kreer played for BSG Lokomotive Delitzsch and 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , of which he has been a member since 1971. He won the championship title in 1977/78 with the junior league team of the Leipzig soccer club .

For 1. FC Lok Leipzig, Kreer played from the 1978/79 season with the first men's team in the GDR league . In 241 first division games he scored 10 goals. With the Leipzig team, he also won the FDGB Cup twice and played 27 European Cups. In the 1986/87 season he reached the final in the European Cup Winners' Cup with the Saxons .

In 1991/92 Ronald Kreer played one more season with VfB Leipzig in the 2nd Bundesliga before ending his career at FC Sachsen Leipzig in the then third-class NOFV amateur league .

Selection bets

At the youth competitions of friendship , held in Hungary in 1977, he took 4th place with the U-18 of the GDR . For the UEFA youth tournament, the unofficial European championship in this age group, Kreer's year of birth could not qualify in the spring of 1978 after two 1-1 draws against Greece and the subsequent lost penalty shoot-out.

With the youth national team he won the silver medal at the U-21 European Championship . In the 1978/80 competition , the East German footballers only lost in the final of two games (0-0, 0-1) against their Soviet peers .

With the GDR Olympic selection , Kreer qualified for the Olympic soccer tournament in Los Angeles in the spring of 1984 . The Leipzig resident and his teammates could not take part in the games in California due to the boycott of the socialist countries .

On September 22, 1982, the defender completed his first international game for the GDR national team in the 2-2 draw against the Bulgarians in Burgas . In total, Kreer played 65 international matches between September 1982 and November 1989, scoring two goals. Only five players in East German football history were used more often in the DFV's senior national team than the native Delitzscher.

Further career

After his playing career, the father of two worked at the DFB on various projects in the field of youth development in the Leipzig area. After his professional career, he also worked as an automobile dealer in Torgau. For the traditional team of 1. FC Lok, he stayed on the ball until his 60th birthday while working in the dealership.
