life and work

On his mother's side, Mario Scheuermann came from a family in the Palatinate with a 300-year tradition in wine and gastronomy ; his father Horst was a journalist. In his hometown he attended the Kurfürst-Ruprecht-Gymnasium . While at school he worked for the school newspaper Achtung Schule , of which he was one of the founders. Attention School was one of the earliest independent school newspapers in Rhineland-Palatinate. A number of journalists and media workers emerged from the editorial team, such as the later BILD editor-in-chief Udo Röbel and the television journalist Judith Kauffmann . From 1964 Scheuermann wrote alongside the school for the Neustadt local page and for the home page of the Ludwigshafen daily newspaper Die Rheinpfalz . From 1969 to 1970 he trained as an editor at the German Press Agency (dpa) in Hamburg and Düsseldorf. In the 1970s he worked as a reporter for the Hamburger Morgenpost and in the 1990s as a restaurant critic for Die Welt und Welt am Sonntag . From 1979 to 1983 Scheuermann was editor and 1984 editor-in-chief of Ullsteins Gourmet Journal / VIF.

Scheuermann has published numerous specialist books and essays on wine and cuisine. He published and moderated on "Eating, Drinking, Living Well" (including Welt / Welt am Sonntag, Capital, DIE ZEIT, Lettre International , taz, Budapester Zeitung, Everything about Wine, Vinum , Falstaff , Effilee, Sehnsucht Deutschland and Slowfood Magazin) .

In 2002 he founded “best-of-wine.com”, an information portal for wine and “talk about wine”, an online wine forum. Both sides were shut down by him at the end of 2013. The author has combined his online and social media activities under the brand "Weinreporter.net". Since 2014 he has been part of the regular authors of the “WeinWisser” wine letter. From 2005 to 2015 he was a volunteer Wikipedia author.

Mario Scheuermann lived and worked in Lauenburg / Elbe near Hamburg and in Ódorfa (western Hungary). He died of a heart attack on October 15, 2015.
