The adjective maritime ( Latin maritimus 'belonging to the sea' ) denotes an influence of the sea . In contrast to the adjective marin , the term maritime is used in particular when it comes to uses of the sea by humans or a viewpoint related to humans. That is why one speaks of maritime technology, but also of marine mineral resources or marine ecosystems .
