Marius Hulpe
Marius Hulpe (born July 6, 1982 in Soest ) is a German writer .
Live and act
Marius Hulpe is the fifth of nine half-siblings and grew up as the younger of two siblings in Soest, Westphalia . He first studied philosophy , literature and theater / media studies in Leipzig, Potsdam and Berlin and since 2006 creative writing and cultural journalism in Hildesheim. There, as well as at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, he also received teaching positions, including a. on the subject of psychopathological literature .
Hulpe first drew attention to himself in the late 1990s, mostly with small publications in regional magazines. In 2008 he made his debut at the Ammann Verlag in Zurich with the highly acclaimed volume of poetry "revival of the lambs", about which Walter Hinck wrote in the FAZ : "These poems have an original poetic expressiveness [...] a voice that is imprinted". In the same year he was awarded the sponsorship prize of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists , which had been given to artists like Hanns-Josef Ortheil , Pina Bausch and Thomas Kling before him . In the laudation, the author Friedmar Apel attested him "astonishing stylistic confidence and expressiveness" and stated: "How the precise observation of modern reality with poetological reflection and the expression of poetic joie de vivre manifests itself in a variety of forms and themes that is unusual for a debut is unanimous admiration The jury found. ”His poems, essays and stories then appeared on the radio (including on WDR ) as well as in numerous magazines, newspapers and anthologies, etc. a. In 2009 he appeared at lit.Cologne in Cologne's Gloria Theater alongside the later Nobel Prize winner Herta Müller , recited his poems and discussed the state of the world with more established writers, which prompted WDR to include more of his poems To direct actors on the radio.
To date, his poems and individual prose texts have been translated into eight languages.
Hulpe also appeared again and again as a journalist, for example for SZ-Online, the Berliner Morgenpost or the Literaturen magazine .
After a period of journalistic retreat in the meantime, in which he mainly promoted younger authors and edited anthologies, the volumes of poetry "Once we will" and "Sweet Electric Night" were published in quick succession in 2013 and 2014.
In 2016, Hulpe published the narrative essay "The Poland Complex", about which Florian Felix Weyh stated on Deutschlandfunk that the story of Poland's own historical vulnerability turned Poland into a model for the European future.
In 2019 his first novel "Wilde Grüne Stadt" was published by Dumont, to which the journalist Jochen Overbeck attested a great style and a no less great story in Spiegel magazine. In the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Burkhard Müller praised the "special language" and the "stubbornness of the plot", which did not go into the exemplary usable. The narrative style and the "characteristic style" also allowed "the individual and the typical to emerge more clearly than the linear narrative would be able to".
After several years in Krakow, Marius Hulpe now lives in Berlin.
Trivia
In 2011, the Swiss writer Matthias Zschokke had the young Hulpe appear as a character in the colportage novel Lieber Niels (Wallstein Verlag).
