The Lavamünd market church is located at the west entrance of Lavamünd . The branch church of the Lavamünd parish church is dedicated to John the Baptist .

Building description

The church is a late baroque building from the second half of the 18th century, built in place of an older complex . The church has a three-icon choir in the north and a wide vestibule in the south. The vestibule is open in three arcades to Marktstrasse and has a groin vault . The vestibule is connected to the east by the sacristy and to the west by the tower, the helmet of which was replaced in 1920. The bell was cast by Martin Pucher in 1812. A groin vault rises above the three-bay nave, which is structured by arches and pilasters . The choir square has a square vault, the three apses half-domes with ribbon ribs. In the windows you can see stained glass medallions with half-figure saints from around 1920.

Facility

The high altar with strongly protruding columns dates from the third quarter of the 18th century and contains a carved group of the Holy Trinity with Mary. Saints Gregory and Ambrose stand to one side . The left side altar from the same period bears a carved group depicting the baptism of Jesus , flanked by Saints Peter and Paul . The baptism of Christ, like the Trinity on the high altar, is a work of Michael Zill . The right side altar was built around 1700 and shows Saints Leonhard and Florian on the altar sheet . On the sound cover of the pulpit from the last quarter of the 18th century stands the figure of Saint Paul, in front of him an open book with the words “Verbum dei manet in Vobis” (The word of God abide in you, 1 John 2; 14). The church also features a canvas painting of St. Catherine of Siena from the 18th century.
