Markus Hofmann (priest)
Markus Hofmann (born March 11, 1968 in Cologne ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman, member of the Cologne Cathedral Chapter and Episcopal Vicar in the Archdiocese of Cologne and since May 1, 2018 Vicar General of the Archbishop of Cologne.
Life
Markus Hofmann was ordained deacon in 1994 and was ordained a priest in 1995 by Archbishop Joachim Cardinal Meisner . From 1995 to 1998 he was chaplain at St. Franziskus Xaverius in Düsseldorf - Mörsenbroich . He was then released until 2003 to do a doctorate at the University of Augsburg . In 2003 he first became director of the Collegium Albertinum theological convict in Bonn before he was appointed to the reign of the archbishop's seminary in Cologne in 2009. In 2010 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Hofmann headed the seminary until April 2015, when he was appointed Episcopal Vicar for the religious orders and international Catholic pastoral care in the Archdiocese of Cologne by Archbishop Rainer Maria Woelki .
As early as 2012, Markus Hofmann was appointed resident cathedral capitular at the High Cathedral in Cologne, succeeding Rainer Maria Woelki, who had become archbishop of Berlin . In March 2018, Archbishop Rainer Maria Woelki appointed Markus Hofmann as Vicar General of the Archbishop of Cologne with effect from May 1, 2018, to succeed Dominik Meiering .
He belongs to the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross , which is linked to Opus Dei .
