Marky Markowitz

Irvin "Marky" Markowitz (born December 1, 1923 in Washington, DC ; † November 11, 1986 ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , also vocals ).

Markowitz worked from the early 1940s in the orchestras of Charlie Spivak , Jimmy Dorsey , Sonny Dunham , Boyd Raeburn , in 1946 in Woody Hermans First Herd and with Sonny Berman , then in the short-lived big band of Buddy Rich . In 1947/48 he belonged to Hermans Secomd Herd , and also played for Gene Krupa . In the field of jazz he was involved in 200 recording sessions between 1941 and 1980. a. also with Louie Bellson , Al Cohn , Paul Desmond , Bill Evans , Grant Green , Urbie Green , Coleman Hawkins , Lee Konitz / Jimmy Giuffre , Butch Miles , Tony Mottola , Jackie Paris , George Russell , Joe Thomas and Kai Winding . As a studio musician, he also took part in the recordings of The Coasters , Eumir Deodato ( Prelude ), Neil Diamond , Hugo Montenegro and Paul Simon (“Stranded in a Limousine”) from the 50s . In 1960 he presented the LP Mark's Vibes under his own name . In 1984 he was still in Bob Wilber's band on the soundtrack of the film Cotton Club .
