Marlies Näf-Hofmann

Marlies Näf-Hofmann (born October 15, 1926 in Arbon , Canton Thurgau ; entitled to live there ; † June 13, 2018 ) was a Swiss politician ( SVP ; glp ; CVP ) and lawyer .

Life

Marlies Näf-Hofmann studied law and economics at the University of Zurich and the University of Bern . In 1962 she was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. She financed her studies as a journalist for the Bern daily newspaper Der Bund . She was a trainee at the Schaffhausen Higher Court and passed the Swiss bar exam. One year after the introduction of women's suffrage in Switzerland , she became the first woman as a full-time judge at the Zurich District Court in 1972 .

Marlies Näf-Hofmann was a member of the SVP for almost 50 years, as a student already in the SVP forerunner of the Farmers, Trade and Citizens Party (BGB) , and from 1992 to 2012 as a cantonal councilor in the Canton of Thurgau. Among other things, she was Vice President of the Justice Commission of the Thurgau Grand Council. At the age of 86 she was no longer nominated by the SVP for reasons of age. For the green liberals, she unsuccessfully applied as a non-party member for the city parliament in Arbon. In 2015, Näf-Hofmann initially stood as a non-party candidate for the CVP and was able to move into the Arbon city parliament as a successor in 2017.

Näf-Hofmann campaigned against abortion and euthanasia as well as palliative care at the national level . In 2008 she initiated a successful people's initiative “Palliative Care” for the canton of Thurgau with the aim of anchoring the care of seriously ill patients in law. She was a member of numerous initiatives and committees, including long-time president of the Zurich section “Yes to Life”.

In 2009 she was voted “Arbon Woman of the Year”.
