However, she was subsequently unable to confirm these achievements. Occasionally Marlies Oester also achieved respectable results in the combination and in the giant slalom . It was not until winter 2001/02 that she was able to build on her earlier achievements, as a career highlight she achieved her first World Cup victory on February 20, 2002 in the slalom in Berchtesgaden , at the same time as Kristina Koznick and before Janica Kostelić .
After this victory, however, she was only good for two surprises in the combination at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and at the 2003 World Championships in St. Moritz . Fourth place in Salt Lake City was followed by third place in St. Moritz. On December 4, 2005, she tore an inner ligament in her left knee in a fall while training in Loveland , Colorado, and traveled home. During the MRI in Switzerland , it turned out that she had also torn the posterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. This meant the end of her career.
