Marlin is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Falls County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located at the junction of Highways 6 and 7, seven kilometers east of the Brazos River in east Texas in the center of the county and has a total area of 11.8 km², of which 0.1 km² is water.

According to the 2000 census, 6,628 people in 2,415 households and 1,509 families lived here. The population density was 566.2 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 41.84% White, 44.48% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 11.62% other ethnic groups. About 1.58% were mixed race and 18.30% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,415 households, 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 35.7% of these were married couples living together. 22.5% were single mothers and 37.5% were non-families. 34.8% of all households were single households and there were people living in 18.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.21.
33.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.4% 18 to 24, 21.3% 25 to 44, 18.9% 45 to 64, and 19.3% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 96.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 80.4 men.
