Martin Luther Church

The former Evangelical Martin Luther Church was part of a community center designed by Wolfgang Pingel , which stood on the property at Wollankstrasse 84-94 in the Berlin district of Gesundbrunnen (formerly: Wedding ) in the Mitte district .

history

With the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, West Berlin became part of the community of the Ev. Martin Luther congregation in Pankow separated ( monument list entry ). For him, a community center with a hall church and a two-storey building was built for him on Wollankstrasse from 1962 to 1963 , which contained leisure facilities for children and young people , an apartment and a study for the pastor, as well as rooms for the confirmands and the social station .

The full name of the community was Ev. Parish of Martin-Luther Pankow-West. The last service took place on Easter Monday 2004. The church was then deedicated and then demolished because it would have cost an estimated half a million euros to renovate the building. The parish council had coordinated this first demolition of a Protestant church in Berlin with the regional church . After the demolition, the community moved into the remaining building wing , which was converted for 130,000 euros. The community later merged with those of St. Paul and Stephanus to form the Evangelical Church Community on the Panke

Building description

In the two-wing building complex , the wing containing the church interior was built from wooden components donated by the Swedish Aid Organization. The two-story building, which still exists today, is a plastered masonry structure . The two structures were combined by a common asymmetrical gable roof . Two wall panels made of reinforced concrete , which protruded into the gable of the church, served as the portal and bell tower . The bell house , which was covered with a pent roof, sat between the two wall panels . In it hung a ring made of two bronze bells , which was cast by the Rincker bell and art foundry in 1963 :
