Evangelical Church of Westphalia

The Martin Luther Church in Harsewinkel , East Westphalia, is the main church of the Protestant parish. The Christ Church in the Marienfeld district also belongs to the parish . Administratively, the church and parish belong to the Halle parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

The population in Harsewinkel is originally Catholic . In 1939 the political community Harsewinkel had 6,350 inhabitants, of which 285 were Protestant. 166 lived in Harsewinkel, 98 in Marienfeld and 21 in Greffen . As early as 1923, the church authorities decided that the Evangelicals in Greffen should belong to the parish in Warendorf ( Münster church district ), the Evangelicals in Harsewinkel and Marienfeld to the church community in Brockhagen ( Halle church district ). The reason was the distance between the communities.

After the Second World War , the number of Protestants in the Harsewinkel office increased. In particular, displaced persons came from Münster , but they later returned to their homeland. A stream of expellees came from the German east, most of whom were Protestant. They came from areas beyond the Oder-Neisse line and from the Reichenbach district in Silesia and from the village of Groß-Wilkau . As a result of these immigrants, the number of Protestants in Harsewinkel rose to 636 in 1951 and to 273 in Marienfeld. Since the evangelical community Brockhagen had to look after 909 believers in addition, an additional pastor was hired for the Harsewinkel district as early as 1947.

At first the evangelical community did not have its own worship room. The Catholic parish of St. Lucia made its church available to the community. Further church services take place in the hall of the Vossenkämper restaurant, which also served as a classroom until the end of 1950. From 1951, the community rented the hall and was able to use it exclusively. The inauguration by Superintendent Heuer from Werther followed on April 1st of that year . In the same year a branch office of the church treasury Brockhagen was set up for Harsewinkel and Marienfeld. Pastor Vethake bought a plot of 1,000 m² at the intersection of Clarholzer Strasse / Umgehungsstrasse and initially had the rectory built there because the parish hall in the inn was rented for several years. The construction project could not be financed by either the Harsewinkel municipality or the Brockhagen parish. The construction was carried out by the Halle church district . All affiliated parishes had contributed their part to the construction with a special contribution. A large part of the construction costs was financed by a loan . On March 1, 1952, the second pastorate was moved from Brockhagen to Harsewinkel. Martin Johannigmeier was elected for this position on November 30, 1952 and took it up on January 11, 1953.

With effect from July 1, 1954, the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community Harsewinkel was founded, which brings together the Evangelical believers from Harsewinkel and Marienfeld. The second pastorate from Brockhagen was permanently transferred to the new parish. In the meantime, after the rectory, the church was also under construction and could be completed after ten and a half months. On July 4, 1954, the consecration took place by Bishop D. Zenker. The political community of Harsewinkel made 1,000 DM available for setting up the altar , the Claas company donated 40,000 building blocks for the construction and the communities in the Halle church district contributed 100,000 DM through a special contribution.

On May 1, 1957, the Protestant Jona kindergarten was opened and on July 1 of that year a community nurse's station was set up. The topping-out ceremony for the Friedrich von Bodelschwingh School , a Protestant denominational school in Harsewinkel , followed on September 10th .

In 1963 the Protestant parish had 1,601 believers, 1,252 of them in Harsewinkel and 355 in Marienfeld. In 1964 the new Christ Church in the Marienfeld district was consecrated.
