Martin Becker (born November 2, 1982 in Attendorn ) is a German writer , journalist and radio play author .

Life

Becker grew up in Plettenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . He first studied German and philosophy for two semesters at the Ruhr University in Bochum , before taking up prose and drama at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig in 2003 . In 2005 he moved from Leipzig to Berlin, where he worked as a radio journalist, mainly for WDR . Today Becker lives again in Leipzig and Prague.

In the summer of 2007, Becker took part in the reading competition for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in Klagenfurt at the suggestion of Klaus Nüchtern .

In August 2007, Luchterhand Literaturverlag published his volume of short stories A beautiful life ; At the same time, two stories taken from the volume, the title story A beautiful life and society , spoken by the actors Ueli Jäggi and Raphael Clamer , were published as audio pieces on CD by the Zurich audio book publisher sprechtheater . The daily newspaper Die Welt wrote about A Beautiful Life : “This literature is too much to get over with. And it would be given away. "

Together with the Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš , Becker wrote the radio play Lost in Praha , which was broadcast on Westdeutscher Rundfunk in April 2008 , and the opera Exit 89 , which premiered in October 2008 in the Divadlo Archa theater in Prague . In November 2008 the WDR broadcast Becker's second radio play entitled Before everything is gone .

Becker is also working on artistic features for public broadcasters and has portrayed the composer Philip Glass, the filmmaker Béla Tarr and the writer Hubert Selby junior, among others.

From 2011 to 2012 Martin Becker was an artistic assistant at the professorship for Experimental Radio at the Bauhaus University in Weimar, which is unique in Europe .

In 2014, together with theater director and musician Schorsch Kamerun, the radio play "Fathers Have Seven Lives" was created, which Cameroon and Becker also presented at a live performance.

Becker is currently working as a critic and journalist for Deutschlandfunk, Westdeutscher Rundfunk and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, among others.
