Martin Drennan (born January 2, 1944 in Piltown , County Kilkenny ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh .

Life

Drennan studied Roman Catholic theology in Maynooth and at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and was on 16 July 1968, the Diocese of Ossory for priests ordained.

On May 28, 1997, Drennan was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Dublin and titular bishop of Aquae Regiae by Pope John Paul II . He received episcopal ordination on September 21 of the same year from the Archbishop of Dublin , Desmond Connell ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Luciano Storero , and the Bishop of Ossory, Laurence Forristal .

On May 23, 2005, Drennan became Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh and Apostolic Administrator of Kilfenora . Drennan succeeded Bishop James McLoughlin in Galway . On July 29, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his resignation for health reasons.
