Martin Gertler

Martin Klemens Josef Gertler (born July 31, 1954 in Münster ) is a German university professor and media producer.

Life

Martin Gertler was born as the youngest son of Alfred Gertler . He studied philosophy and theology at the PTH - Philosophical-Theological University - of the Capuchins in Münster and at the Radboud University Nijmegen , Netherlands. In 1978 he started working as a freelance TV journalist for ARD and ZDF as a student .

On January 1, 1984 he was the editor in charge of the first private TV show in Germany at EPF ( Erste Private Fernsehgesellschaft mbH, supported by the Die Rheinpfalz publishing house , Ludwigshafen). Since 1986 he has been working as an independent entrepreneur in Münster (tele public GmbH) and Cologne (tele vision GmbH).

In 1994, Gertler was nominated by Südwestfunk for what was then the Premiere TV Prize. In 1998 he was a member of the jury for the fiction section at the 38th International Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo .

After completing his doctorate in 1999 at Radboud University Nijmegen , he became a university lecturer, initially as a lecturer at the DEKRA Media Academy Rügen, the Stuttgart Media University and the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences . In 2002 he took over the professorship for media theory and media production at the Rheinische Fachhochschule Köln (RFH). There he initially headed the Media Management course (part-time), then he built up the Media Design course and headed it from 2004 to 2007.

Gertler then headed the School of Graduate Studies (international master’s courses) and the Lectorates (applied research chairs at Dutch university colleges) as Director of Academic Affairs at the Stenden Hogeschool in Leeuwarden (formerly CHN ). From 2008 to 2009 he was professor of communication science and founding rector of the university with university status Stenden University Berlin (SUB) , which closed again after his departure, as well as managing director of its non-profit sponsoring company. Then he took up his professorship at the RFH again. Since 2011, he has also been accompanying doctoral students at the Universiteit voor Humanistiek in Utrecht as a visiting professor at the Graduate School .

He volunteers as a board member of the Ruth Pfau Foundation and as an active member of the DAHW (German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Aid).
