Martin Heinze (born January 5, 1939 in Belkan ) is a former German wrestler .

Career

Martin Heinze began wrestling as a teenager in Leuna near Halle . He learned the profession of electrical welder in Leuna and was a member of the SC Chemie Halle-Leuna , later of the SC Chemie Halle . Heinze concentrated on the free style and as a youth could not place himself in the front field at the GDR championships. However, he made a name for himself in 1958 with a 3rd place in the welterweight division at the GDR championship. In 1959 he was GDR runner-up and in 1960 GDR welterweight champion for the first time. Between 1960 and 1968 Heinze won six East German welterweight championship titles. In 1960 he succeeded in asserting himself in the all-German Olympic elimination for the Olympic Games in Rome . At the games themselves he had drawn a very difficult lot. He wrestled with the Soviet representative Wachtang Balawadze , but lost against İsmail Ogan from Turkey and Yutaka Kaneko from Japan and came in 9th place.

Between 1960 and 1964 he was not used in any international championships. In 1964, however, he succeeded again in qualifying for the Olympic Games in Tokyo by winning and drawing against the German representative Peter Nettekoven from Bonn - Duisdorf . In Tokyo it was similar to in Rome. Martin finished 11th this time with one win and two losses.

In 1967 and 1968 Martin Heinze reached a good 5th place at the European Championships in Istanbul and Skoplje . After all, in 1968 he was sent to the Olympic Games for the third time by the GDR association leadership. In Mexico City , the GDR was represented with its own team for the first time. In Mexico City, however, Heinze did not manage to place at the very front either. He came back to 9th place with two wins and two losses.

After 1968, Martin Heinze ended his international career as an active wrestler.
