Martin Kampmann (born April 17, 1982 in Aarhus , Denmark ) is a Danish MMA fighter who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship league. He fights for the stable Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts and lives and fights currently in Las Vegas ( Nevada ).

biography

Kampmann made his debut in MMA as a later replacement for Kalib Starnes at UFC Fight Night 6. He defeated Crafton Wallace there in the first round by giving up. His next victory came from a unanimous decision by the judges against Thales Leites at The Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale. At UFC 68, he defeated Drew McFedries by retiring in Round 1.

Next up was Rich Franklin at UFC 72 , but had to resign due to a knee injury. At UFC 85 he returned and defeated Jorge Rivera there by giving up in the first round.

Kampmann runs his own MMA gym for the Shooters MMA team .

He is a former Cage Warrior Middleweight Champion (2005), FB Submission Wrestling Tournament Champion in the 77 kg weight category (2004), Battle of the Vikings Thai Boxing Superfight Champion (2004) and Danish Thai Boxing Champion (2001).

After Kampmann lost his first MMA fight against Nate Marquardt at UFC 88, he announced that he would switch to the welterweight division. He made his debut in this at UFC 93 and defeated there in the second round Alexandre Barros by TKO. He then defeated the last World Extreme Cagefighting welterweight champion Carlos Condit in a close fight, which was rated on points with two to one referee votes for him.

On September 19, 2009 Kampmann was supposed to play against Mike Swick . The winner should get a title shot against Georges St. Pierre . However, on September 4, Swick announced that he was injured and could not compete. As a replacement, Kampmann was supposed to play against Paul Daley . This was no longer a battle for the number one challenger. However, this fight is considered controversial by many. Kampmann stood on his feet and actively blocked Daley's blows when referee Yves Lavigne broke off the fight and rated it as a TKO victory for Daley.

Kampmann was scheduled to play against Rory Markham at UFC 108 on January 2, 2010  , but the fight was canceled on December 14, 2009 because Markham injured his knee during training. Instead, he went up against Jacob Volkmanny and defeated him in the first round by giving up. Kampmann won with a modified grip of the guillotine choke (English: "guillotine choke"), Kampmann calls this grip Deathchoke.

At UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy was supposed to play Kampmann against Ben Saunders , but had to withdraw due to an injury and was replaced by Jake Ellenberger .

On June 12, 2010 Kampmann met Paulo Thiago at UFC 115 and defeated him. Kampmann lost his next fight, at UFC 121 on October 23, 2010, to Jake Shields . The encounter on March 3rd against Diego Sanchez ended in a narrow point defeat.
