Martin Karcher (born November 12, 1946 ) is a former German handball player and coach . The goalkeeper became German champion with TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen .
Career
Karcher only started playing handball at TB 1879 Pforzheim at the age of 16. In 1970 he moved to Bundesliga club TSV Grün-Weiß Dankersen. In his first season with the new club, he was German champion. In the 1974/75 and 1975/76 seasons he was German runner-up and DHB cup winner. In 1976 he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup with Dankersen . Due to an injury he could not participate in the defeat at BM Granollers . Even when he won his second German championship in 1977 , he was not in goal. Due to the modalities at that time when changing clubs, Karcher was forced to log out of GWD in March in order to be eligible to play for TuS Nettelstedt at the beginning of the new season. For the 1979/80 season he was player-coach of the 2nd team. When Vitomir Arsenijević was dismissed in February 1980, he took over the post with the Bundesliga team and led the team in 1981 to the greatest successes in the club's history. In April the European Cup Winners' Cup was won against SC Empor Rostock , followed by triumph in the DHB Cup in the final against VfL Günzburg in May . In both duels, Nettelstedt was ahead of the game with one goal after the two legs. A good six months later he was relieved of his position at the initiative of the team. Karcher continued his coaching career at TuS Spenge . The stations followed: VfB Holzhausen II (for the second time), TuS Rot-Weiß Unterlübbe, TuS Lahde-Quetzen, HV Espelkamp, TuS Eintracht Minden and the 2nd team of VfB Holzhausen II.
He made his debut on March 30, 1971 against Poland in Munster for the national team of the Federal Republic of Germany . In total, he completed eight international matches for the selection.
With the Mindener Freiherr-vom-Stein-Berufskolleg the qualified sports teacher became German champion in A-youth school handball in 1979.
