Martin Klöti (born April 1, 1954 , legal resident in Wald ZH and Kloten ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and member of the government of the canton of St. Gallen .

Life

Klöti grew up in miles . He attended the teachers' seminar in Küsnacht ZH and trained as a primary school teacher in the senior seminar in Zurich . From 1976 to 1986 he lived as a farmer and teacher in Mogelsberg . In 1978 he and his then partner Hans Gerd Kübel founded a salmon smokehouse in Balik in Toggenburg . In addition to other further training courses, from 1992 to 1995, after Kübel's death, he attended the ITR engineering school, department L, in his long-term home in Rapperswil SG . Klöti has been a qualified landscape architect HTL since 1995. In 1997 he was elected to the city council of Rapperswil. As an entrepreneur, he and a business partner acquired a hotel that had been vacant for a long time in 1999, converted it and reopened it as the Jakob-Hotel on the main square. In the same year he founded and organized the festival blues'n'jazz Rapperswil and became vice president of the city.

On 1 January 2006 he took office as Stadtammann in Arbon and moved the residence to his new place of work. He was the successor to Lydia Buchmüller, who had to resign after differences and health problems. Since 2006 he has been President of the Saurer 150th Anniversary Foundation. 2010 Foundation of the Saurer Museum in Arbon. In 2008 Klöti was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau .

In the elections on March 11, 2012 , Martin Klöti was elected to the government council of the canton of St. Gallen in the first ballot. He thus resigned as mayor of Arbon and resigned as cantonal councilor. As the successor to Kathrin Hilber , he is a member of the government of the Canton of St. Gallen and head of the Department of the Interior. Martin Klöti was re-elected on February 28, 2016. In the 2016/2017 year of office he was also regional president. He has been a member of the Presidium of the Swiss Social Directors' Conference SODK since June 2015 and its President since August 2017.

Since June 2016 he has been a member of the foundation council Kunst (Zeug) Haus Rapperswil-Jona . Since September 2016 he has been a member of the Antonio Stradivari Cremona Foundation Board, Habisreutinger Foundation.
