Martin Klimmer

Theodor Martin Klimmer (born January 10, 1873 in Dippoldiswalde ; † February 12, 1943 in Dresden ) was a German veterinarian and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Klimmer attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden . After graduating from high school, he studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Dresden and received his license to practice medicine in 1895 . He then moved to Bern, where he worked at the University of Bern in 1897 with the following work: Is sugar a normal component of the urine of our domestic mammals? (Jena 1898) as Dr. phil. PhD. From 1898 he taught as an associate professor for physiological chemistry at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Dresden, from 1902 to 1923 there as professor for animal hygiene , bacteriology and infectious diseases, and from 1923 to 1938 for animal hygiene at the University of Leipzig.

Once again he received his doctorate in veterinary medicine. med. vet. He was a specialist in animal hygiene, especially milk hygiene , and the transferability of animal diseases to humans. He was a leader in vaccine research with close ties to the vaccine industry. He was succeeded in 1938 by Adolf Meyn .

Klimmer served in the First World War. In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .

During his studies, Klimmer was active as a mountaineer and climber in Saxon Switzerland . Together with Oscar Schuster , his former classmate at the Kreuzschule, he was involved in the first ascent of the Schusterweg (difficulty level III) on the Falkenstein in 1892 . A year later, on May 24, 1893, together with Schuster, he succeeded in the first ascent of the Klimmerstein , which was later named after him , a climbing rock near the Rauschenstein near Schmilka (difficulty level I). In the same year he completed three more first ascents in lead climbing and was involved in another.

His son was the neurologist and sex researcher Rudolf Klimmer (1905–1977).
