Martin Verdonk (born April 5, 1959 in Curaçao , Netherlands Antilles ) is a Dutch jazz percussionist.

Verdonk came to the Netherlands with his parents in 1971 . From 1982 to 1984 he studied Latin American percussion at the Rotterdam Conservatory. This was followed by studies at the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba until 1988 . His teachers were Mario Jaurequi , Roberto Vizcaino and Giovanni Hidalgo .

He joined the band Congarilla of Santana -Schlagzeuger Raul Rekow and Orestes Vilató when, with whom he toured between 1986 and 1989 by Europe. In 1990, he joined the band Lois Lane , which as the opening act on tour with Prince undertook. This was followed by four appearances by Verdonk with Prince at Wembley Stadium in London.

Verdonk has worked as a sideman with numerous jazz, rock, pop world and fusion musicians, including Donna Summer , Lionel Richie , James Taylor , Steve Winwood , Ilse DeLange and Karin Bloemen . Since 1995 he has led the percussion group Martin Verdonk's Tribal Fusion . He recorded two albums as a band leader.

Verdonk teaches at the World Music Department of the Rotterdam Conservatory. He has been voted Drummer of the Year several times by the readers of the Slagwerkkrant drum magazine .
