Martina Geisler (born June 12, 1986 ) is an Austrian ski racer . Their strongest discipline is the giant slalom . Geisler attended the ski trade school in Stams and has been a regular soldier at the Heeressportzentrum Innsbruck since 2009 . Her career was interrupted several times by injuries.

Career

Geisler achieved first successes in 1999, when she won the giant slalom at the Trofeo Topolino and became Austrian school champion in the same discipline. Two years later she was second in the giant slalom at the 2001 World Schools Championships in Whistler and again Austrian school champion. In December 2001, the then 15-year-old took part in FIS races for the first time and in February 2002 she won the first of these races. At the end of January 2003 she won the silver medal in slalom behind the Norwegian Lene Løseth at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Bled and shortly afterwards she became Austrian youth champion in her age group in giant slalom, slalom and combined. At the end of March she reached third place in the giant slalom at the Austrian Championships in 2003 . Then she was accepted into the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Association and rose to the B-squad a year later.

Geisler has been competing in the European Cup since January 2004 . In her fifth race she finished in the top ten for the first time and at the end of the season she just missed her first podium with fourth place in the giant slalom in the Sierra Nevada . At the Junior World Championships in 2004 she reached eleventh place in the Super-G, and she was again Austrian youth champion in giant slalom. In the 2004/05 European Cup season , Geisler was among the top ten five times and achieved her first podium with third place in the Super-G in Reinswald / Sarntal . In the Downhill and Super-G rankings she finished eighth, in the overall rankings 13. At the Junior World Championships 2005 she only started in the Downhill and finished 22. In the 2005/06 season she reached another two top -10 places in the European Cup before she suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in February and had to end the season early.

In the comeback winter of 2006/07 Geisler was unable to continue their previous achievements and did not come under the top 30 in any European Cup races. In the next season things went up again. Already in the first giant slalom in Levi she finished seventh and on January 7th, 2008 she reached second place in the giant slalom in Turnau . Shortly afterwards, she made her first World Cup appearance in the Maribor slalom , but in which she did not qualify for the second run. In February 2008 Geisler suffered her second serious injury, a broken tibia in her left leg, which is why the season was over for her. She could not take part in any races during the entire next winter.

She made her successful comeback on November 28, 2009, when she surprisingly won the European Cup giant slalom in Funäsdalen in the first race after her long injury break . In December 2009 Geisler started again in two giant slaloms in the World Cup, but failed in both because of the qualification for the second round. No further World Cup starts have followed so far. In the next two years, it was used exclusively in the European Cup in addition to FIS races. In the 2009/10 season she reached fourth and in the 2010/11 season sixth place in the giant slalom ranking.
