Martire is an Australian thrash , black and death metal band from Adelaide that was formed in 1986.

history

The band was formed in 1986. In 1991 a self-titled EP was released on Dominator Records , where the line-up consists of singer and guitarist Vince Feleppa, guitarist Tony Vlavis, drummer Dave Hopgood and bassist Frank Usmiami. After performing with Morbid Angel in 1992, the band took a break. It wasn't until the guitarist and vocalist Don Taylor joined in 1995 that the band was revived. The line-up was completed by drummer Denny "The Serpent Inquisitor" Blake and bassist Damon "The Great Righteous Destroyer" Good. In the following time the band was inactive again and again. In 1998, the German label Merciless Records released the EP Lucifer , which was followed by a split release with Angelcorpse the following year . In 2004 the split release United in Hell was released on Apocalyptor Records with the Polish band Throneum . Martire contributed songs that were actually planned for a debut album. However, a first album was only released in 2012 on Nuclear War Now! Productions under the name Brutal Legions of the Apocalypse .

style

According to Brian Fischer-Giffin in his Encyclopedia of Australian Heavy Metal , the band plays a raw and extreme mix of Thrash and Death Metal. She is one of the longest existing bands in the Australian underground. On the self-titled EP there is aggressive Death Metal, which sounds like an accelerated version of Slayer . In an interview with Déa di Morté from mysticmetal.com.au, Erik Danielsson from Watain named the band alongside Mortal Sin , Bestial Warlust , Spear of Longinus , Slaughter Lord and Sadistik Exekution an important part of the old Australian metal scene. Sophus from themonolith.com wrote in his review of Brutal Legions of the Apocalypse that the 1991 self-titled EP is a small classic of barbaric black and death metal. The album not only sounds like nothing the band had done before, but is also unusual for the death metal genre. However, there is still a mixture of Black and Death Metal that can best be compared with the music of Blasphemy or Bestial Warlust. He also drew a comparison with early technical death metal releases such as the first two Atrocity albums or the death albums Human and Individual Thought Patterns . The drum sound is reminiscent of that of the Sodom EP In the Sign of Evil . The playing speed of the instruments is very high at first. The songs would usually require repeated listening in order to grasp the structures.
