Márton Homonnai (born February 5, 1906 in Budapest , † October 15, 1969 in Buenos Aires ) was a Hungarian water polo player.
Homonnai first took part in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris when he finished fifth in water polo at the age of 18. Four years later he reached the final with the Hungarian team in Amsterdam and only lost there against the team from Germany 2: 5 and took silver. Another four years later, at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , the Hungarian team retaliated for this defeat and beat Germany 6-2 in the decisive final game. Hungary became Olympic champion and Homonnay, who this time acted as team captain, won his first gold medal, together with his teammates György Bródy , Sándor Ivády , Olivér Halassy , József Vértesy , János Németh , István Barta , Alajos Keserű , Miklós Ferencáesny and Ferencáesny .
Homonnai won his second gold medal at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin when, after a 5-0 victory over France and a 2-2 draw over Germany, he joined György Bródy, Kálmán Hazai , Olivér Halassy, Jenő Brandi , Mihály Bozsi , János Németh, István Molnár , György Kutasi , Sándor Tarics and Miklós Sárkány won the gold medal due to the better goal difference and Germany came second.
Homonnai also won four European championship titles from 1926 to 1934. In total, he played 126 international matches for the Hungarian national water polo team . In 1971, Márton Homonnai was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame .
