Mary Anne Driscoll

Mary Anne Driscoll (* 1950 in San Mateo , California ) is an American jazz - pianist and singer .

Mary Anne Driscoll is self-taught ; during her school days she was a choirmaster. She studied at colleges in her hometown and in San Francisco ; she also had private lessons with vocalist Marie Gibson . She then played in the San Francisco Bay Area music scene and performed with improvised music artists, including a. in the Keystone Korner .

In the 1970s, Driscoll moved to New York City , where she worked with Cecil Taylor and Jimmy Lyons , as well as composer, arranger and pianist for Paul Murphy and Dewey Johnson , with Karen Borca , William Parker and Jay Oliver . During this time, Driscoll performed regularly at Club Ali's Alley and was a singer or pianist in Ted Daniel's Big Band Energy . 1981 first recordings were made for Columbia Records in a duo with Paul Murphy; In 1983 she took on more titles with Murphy or in a trio with Jimmy Lyons, Dewey Johnson and Karen Borca; also for RCA with a quintet under Paul Murphy's direction ( Cloudburst , 1983).
