history

Marysville is one of the oldest populated places in Michigan. 1780 went here the first sawmill in operation to the then abundant Weymouth pine ( white pine ) processed to lumber across the St. Clair River to the fast-growing Detroit arrived. After Detroit was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1805, four more sawmills were built. In the 1840s EP Vickery built a new sawmill here and named the place Vicksburg . In the 1860s, Vickery sold the sawmill on. The new owner renamed the place after his wife Mary Marysville. In October 1919, Marysville was incorporated as a City .

In 1921, Wills Sainte Claire Motor Company produced the first car in a newly built factory in Marysville. Company founder C. Harold Wills was previously chief engineer at Ford . Wills Sainte Claire closed the factory again in 1926, but the expected upswing for the city did not begin. A total of 14,000 cars were produced in Marysville that featured some innovations such as the use of molybdenum steel and taillights. In 1935 Chrysler bought the vacant factory site and opened the Marysville Parts Plant there for vendor parts. In 1930 the inventor and entrepreneur Garfield Arthur Wood opened the Gar Wood Boat Works in the village, which built pleasure boats. During the Second World War , Gar Wood built small transport boats ( Navy Personnel Boats ) for the US Navy in collaboration with Chrysler as a boat engine supplier .

In 2010, the German automotive supplier ZF opened a plant in Marysville to manufacture axles for Chrysler vehicles.

The history and cars of Wills Sainte Claire can be seen today at the Wills Sainte Claire Auto Museum in Marysville.
