Matías Nicolás Viña Susperreguy (born November 9, 1997 in Empalme Olmos ) is a Uruguayan soccer player who is under contract with the Brazilian first division club Palmeiras São Paulo . The left full-back has been a Uruguayan international since September 2019 .

Career

Viña moved to the youth department of the first division club Nacional Montevideo from the Uruguayan capital in 2015 . In the game year 2016 he stood for the first time for the reserve in the third-class Segunda División Amateur. He made his first-team debut on April 2, 2017 in a 3-1 away defeat by Boston River . As a result, however, he was rarely used in the senior team. He did not establish himself as a regular player until the 2019 season under the new head coach Álvaro Gutiérrez . He scored his first league goal on April 6, 2019 in a 6-0 home win against River Plate Montevideo . In the 4-1 home win against Liverpool Montevideo on September 16, he marked a brace. He ended the 2019 game year with five goals and four assists in 34 league games, making a significant contribution to the Nacional championship.

On January 31, 2020 Viña moved to the Brazilian first division club Palmeiras São Paulo for a transfer fee of 5.5 million euros , where he signed a five-year contract.

National team

Since June 2016, Matías Viña played for the Uruguayan U20 national team . He scored in his first international match in a 2-2 draw against Chile . In spring 2017 he took part with the U20s in the U20 South American Championship 2017 in Bolivia . With Uruguay he won the tournament in which he played eight games and scored once. In the summer of the same year he was also nominated for the 2017 U20 World Cup in South Korea . Uruguay reached the semi-finals and Viña made four appearances in the competition. Viña completed a total of 27 international matches for the U20, in which he scored four goals.

On September 7, 2019, Matías Viña made his A-team debut in a 2-1 win in a friendly international match against Costa Rica , when he came on for Diego Laxalt in the 81st minute .
