Matarani is a town in the Cochabamba Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Matarani is the central place of the canton Matarani in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sacabamba in the province Esteban Arce . The village is located at an altitude of 3134  m on the left bank of the Río Challaque .

geography

Matarani lies between the mountain ranges of the Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central . The climate is characterized by a typical daytime climate , in which the temperature fluctuations between day and night are greater than between the seasons.

The annual average temperature of the region is around 12 ° C (see the Sacabamba climate diagram), with the monthly averages varying between 8.5 ° C in June / July and 14 ° C in November / December. Annual precipitation is 500 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly values ​​below 20 mm, and a short humidity period from January to February with 100 to 125 mm per month.

Transport network

Matarani is located at a distance of 74 kilometers by road southeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Cochabamba the paved road Ruta 7 leads in a south-easterly direction 33 kilometers to Tolata , from there a dirt road over twelve kilometers further south via Cliza to Toco . From there the road leads a further 32 kilometers southeast to Matarani and on via Sacabamba to Vila Vila and Mizque .
