Matea Ferk (born June 8, 1987 in Rijeka ) is a Croatian ski racer . It starts mainly in the technical disciplines slalom and giant slalom , participated in two Olympic Games and World Championships in part, and drove from 2004 to 2010 - with an injury-induced two-year break - in the World Cup .

Career

Matea Ferk drove her first FIS race in March 2003. From 2004 to 2006, she took part in Junior World Championships, with a fifth place in the slalom 2006 was her best result. From November 2004 Ferk started in the World Cup . However, she was unable to qualify for the second round of the top 30 in any of her 20 World Cup races up to January 2010, which is why she remained without World Cup points in her career. She also took part in races in the Nor-Am Cup several times and was placed under the fastest 15 twice. In the European Cup, however, she only drove a single race.

Ferk's career was interrupted for almost two years at the beginning of the 2006/2007 season by a serious fall in the Nor-Am slalom in Winter Park . She suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial meniscus in her left knee. After an operation, she had to take a break for the entire season. Due to persistent pain in her injured knee, she had to undergo another operation in July 2007. At the end of November 2007 she took part in a slalom race again, but after another intervention she was unable to contest any further races in winter 2007/2008. It was not until December 2008 that she took part in competitions again.

At the World Championships and Olympic Winter Games, in which Ferk had participated from 2005, she only crossed the finish line twice in seven starts. At the 2005 World Championships in Santa Caterina she was 40th in giant slalom and was eliminated in slalom. She had two failures in slalom and giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics . After her injury break, she also retired in the slalom of the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she achieved a result with 34th place in the slalom, while she failed again in the giant slalom.

After the 2009/2010 season, Ferk lost her membership in the Croatian Ski Association, which is why she is no longer in the World Cup or major events. Since winter 2010/2011 she has been competing for the ski team at Sierra Nevada College in university and FIS races in the United States.
