Mathias Schulze

Mathias Uwe Schulze (born October 8, 1983 in Magdeburg , GDR ) is a German athlete in the throwing disciplines in disabled sports in the starting class F46 . He competes in the shot put , discus and javelin throw . He was runner-up in the shot put in 2017 and European champion in 2018 .

career path

Schulze lived in Leipzig and worked as a project supervisor for Arlt Wach-, Lock- und Schutzdienst GmbH after spending nine months in Tanzania helping with the construction of prostheses . Since September 1, 2018 he has been the coordinator for the field of competitive youth sports at the Brandenburg Prevention and Rehabilitation Sports Association (BPRSV) in Cottbus . At this time he was about to finish his bachelor's degree in educational science at the Hagen Open University .

Athletic career

Schulze was born with dysmelia ; his left hand is affected. He had already broken records with the ball in school sports, but did not officially start throwing until 2005, as he had previously devoted himself to football .

In 2005 and 2011 he achieved the bronze medal at the International German Championships in the shot put.

At the International German Indoor Championships in 2012, he won gold in the shot put and silver in the discus throw. In the same year he took fourth place in the shot put at the 2012 Stadskanaal and won gold medals in both discus and shot put at the International Open Athletics Championships. At the Paralympics in London his best result was 5th in the shot put.

In 2013 Schulze took bronze with the ball at the IPC World Championships in Lyon .

In 2014 he won bronze at the IPC European Championships in Swansea with ball, discus and spear.

In 2016 Schulze came silver with ball and spear at the IPC European Championships in Grosseto .

In 2017 he became IPC runner-up in the shot put in London .

In 2018 Schulze won gold with the ball at the IPC European Championships in Berlin .

Club affiliations

Schulz has been working for the Brandenburg Prevention and Rehabilitation Sports Association (BPRSV) in Cottbus since August 1, 2018 and was previously at SC DHfK Leipzig , where he was trained by Lothar Tischendorf and Bernd Bierwisch.
