In the following season Mathis Mönninghoff was part of the Bayer Giants' squad in the 1st Regionalliga West and was an absolute top performer in the NBBL team at TSV Bayer 04. With 19.2 points per game, he is one of the league's best scoopers. With the first team from Leverkusen he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

In 2009 he reached 11th place with the U18 national team at the European Basketball Championships in Metz , France . There he got 10.6 points per game. In the NBBL, the team now renamed TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen was the favorite for the championship title. With Martin Breunig (later, among others, Ludwigsburg), Tim Unterluggauer (later, among others, Gotha / Jena), Lennard Jördell and Till-Joscha Jönke (later, among others, Ulm) there were all players in the squad who had already attended courses for the national team or the West German Basketball Association had participated. The Leverkusen team survived the main round without any problems and in the first round they beat the Junior Phantoms Braunschweig around Daniel Theis and Dennis Schröder (2-1 in games). In the next round, however, it was 0-2 against ALBA Berlin (with Niels Giffey, Malte Ziegenhagen and Joey Ney, among others). Mönninghoff came in the season to 14.6 points per game and took part in the NBBL Allstargame 2010.

In addition, he again reached fifth place with the U20 national team at the 2012 European Championship. Shortly thereafter, Mönninghoff was first used in the German senior team.
