Matthew "Matt" Graham (born 1983 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Graham is from North Grosvenor Dale , Connecticut . He did pre-medical training, but dropped out of college for his poker career. Graham lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Career

Graham played online from July 2006 to “Black Friday” in April 2011 under the nicknames mattg1983 ( PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker , Bodog and bwin ) and mattgraham ( UltimateBet and Absolute Poker) . During this time he recorded tournament winnings of almost two million US dollars and in 2007 was temporarily in the top 10 of the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online poker tournament players worldwide. Since 2005, Graham has also participated in prestigious live tournaments .

In July 2006 he was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and finished 319th in the main event for around 35,000 dollars in prize money. By winning a shootout tournament in the variant Limit Hold'em at the WSOP in 2008 , he secured his first bracelet as well as its previously highest prize money of nearly 280,000 US dollars. In mid-December 2008, Graham won the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas for $ 320,000. In June 2009 he won his second bracelet by winning the world championship in the variant PLO . For this, he prevailed against 294 other players and cleared almost 680,000 dollars in prize money. After 2010 , he could not place in any tournament of the World Series of Poker in the money.

In total, Graham has made more than $ 1.5 million in poker playing live tournaments.
