Matteo Brighi (born February 14, 1981 in Rimini , Italy ) is an Italian football player . He was most recently under contract with FC Empoli and can be used in almost any position in midfield . His younger brother Marco is also a professional soccer player.
Career
societies
Matteo Brighi began his professional career at his home club Rimini Calcio in the 1998/99 season in Serie C2 . During this season he played ten games and scored one goal. The following year he played 34 games, scoring six goals for Rimini.
For 2000/01 Matteo Brighi joined the record champions Juventus in the Serie A . There he made his debut on September 30, 2000 against SSC Napoli , which he won 2-1 with Juve . This season, however, Brighi only made eleven appearances. He was loaned to FC Bologna in 2001/02 , for which he played 32 games. In the following season Brighi played for AC Parma , which received 50% of his transfer rights as part of Marco Di Vaio's move to Juventus. In 2003/04 he was loaned to Brescia Calcio , where he was a regular and attracted attention with good performances.
In the summer of 2004, Matteo Brighi was sold to AS Roma as part of the move from Emerson to Juve , who immediately "parked" him at Chievo for a total of three seasons . There he was an important part of the team for three years. After Chievo at the end of the 2006/07 season in the Serie B was staying, Brighi went back to Roma , for whom he in the first game from the start against FC Empoli scored his first goal right away. Nevertheless, it has so far been difficult for him to assert himself in his position in midfield against the strong competition from Giuly , Taddei , Perrotta , Mancini or De Rossi .
National team
After going through Italy's youth selection since the U-18s, Matteo Brighi made his debut on August 21, 2002 under Giovanni Trapattoni against Slovenia in the senior national team . He played his second international game six and a half years later under Marcello Lippi , on March 28, 2009 in a 2-0 win in Montenegro . There were two more international matches under Lippi in 2009. After that, Brighi was not considered.
In 2004 Brighi celebrated winning the U-21 European Championship with the Italian U-21 team .
