Matthew Kutschank

Johann Matthäus Kutschank ( Upper Sorbian Matej Kućank ; born April 11, 1776 in Nucknitz , † December 19, 1844 in Budissin , today Bautzen ) was a Sorbian- Saxon clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

The son of the farmer Simon Kutschank in Nucknitz attended the Wendish seminar in Prague from the age of 12 . Kutschank was ordained a priest in Prague on September 21, 1799 . From September 1, 1799 to October 17, 1816 he was the first chaplain and then until 1825 pastor at the Church of Our Lady in Bautzen . In 1820 he was accepted as a canon in the cathedral monastery of Bautzen . Later he became cathedral capitular , senior, school inspector of the school of the Liebfrauenkirche and finally from 10 November 1841 dean of the cathedral monastery. On January 20, 1842, he was appointed as the successor to the late Ignaz Bernhard Mauermann as prefect of the two Lausitzes , while Franz Laurenz Mauermann was apostolic vicar of the Saxon hereditary lands. At the Saxon Landtag in 1842/43 he was constitutionally a member of the 1st Landtag Chamber as dean of the Bautzen Cathedral Foundation .

For his services to pastoral care and the school system of Bautzen, he was made a knight of the Royal Saxon Order of Civil Merit in 1831 . He was a member of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences .
