Ludwig Wahl
Ludwig Wahl (born September 7, 1831 in Waldsee ; † June 6, 1905 in Schirgiswalde ) was titular bishop of Cucusus as well as apostolic prefect of Upper Lusatia and apostolic vicar in the Saxon hereditary lands (rest of Saxony, Saxony-Altenburg , Reuss older and younger lines ) and thus administrator of the two Catholic jurisdictions in Saxony and dean of the Bautzen cathedral monastery .
Life
Career
Ludwig Wahl came from the Württemberg Waldsee and was ordained a priest on August 9, 1856 in Rottenburg am Neckar . He was a priest of the Rottenburg-Stuttgart diocese . First he worked as a chaplain in Ulm , then as a repetiteur at the theological seminar in Tübingen . In 1859 Ludwig Wahl went to Saxony as chaplain of the prince and later King Georg and transferred to the Saxon-Herbland diocese . In the Franco-Prussian War 1870–71 Wahl participated as a Saxon chaplain, and in 1871 he became royal court chaplain. In 1886 the priest was appointed papal house prelate , in the same year he was promoted to canon in the collegiate chapter of St. Petri in Bautzen .
Act as a bishop
On July 11, 1890, Ludwig Wahl was appointed administrator of the two Catholic jurisdictions in Saxony, as apostolic vicar and titular bishop of Cucusus . On July 20, 1890, he received the episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Cologne, Philipp Krementz . The prelate was an ex officio member of the first chamber of the Saxon state parliament ; he was held in high regard by the royal family. He made a special effort to help the workforce and promoted the Catholic journeyman's associations , of which he had been president since 1860. In 1881 he initiated the monumental Kolping House in Kaufferstrasse in Dresden , where he also settled the Gray Sisters from Neisse . Ludwig Wahl had been seriously ill since 1899 and fell more and more sick. On October 29, 1899, accompanied by his successor Georg Wuschanski , he consecrated the new choir of the Church of St. Simon and Juda in Crostwitz. From 1900 Wahl could no longer exercise his office and Prelate Georg Wuschanski represented him as Apostolic Administrator in Lusatia; In 1904 Wuschanski became his official successor there. As early as December 1903, this election had also replaced him as Apostolic Vicar in the Saxon hereditary lands. Ludwig Wahl died on June 6, 1905 after severe suffering in Schirgiswalde, where he had retired.
